Atmospheric Pressure
Atmospheric pressure is the weight of all the gases of the atmosphere pressing down on the Earth’s surface. Pressure is measured with a barometer and communicated in a couple different ways: inches of mercury (inHg), and millibars (mb). Most weather stations in the United States measure pressure in inches of mercury, while all weather maps are in millibars.
For reference, at sea level, standard pressure is 30inHg or 1,000mb.
