Intermittent fasting might seem like the latest craze but fasting is a practice that goes back centuries. Many cultures and religions perform some form of fasting. During the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast while the sun is up. On Yom Kippur, Jews fast for 25 hours. Native Americans would go on fasting vision quests. Christians observe Lent and Hindus observe Maha Shivaratri.
