Why Ski Uphill
Uphill skiing, also known as “skinning” uphill and ski touring, is a fast-growing sport today, though it’s taken a while to catch on in the United States. Ski touring is more than 10,000 years old, with people in China and Scandinavia making skis from wood and animal skin for transportation and hunting purposes. Eventually, these uses gave way to downhill fun, fitness, and competition, and this is what draws today’s skiers to the sport of uphill skiing. Fortunately, many resorts allow inbounds uphilling, which is the focus of this course.
